The former vice presidential candidate has lacked a first place finish to date and came in a disapppointed third in his home state of South Carolina.
His official announcement was made in New Orleans today, where he inititally announced his run for the presidency.

I am saddened to hear of Edwards withdrawal. Although I had not intended on voting for him, my vote could have been swayed,I liked having that option. I think had he waited until after super tuesday, his voice and platform would have been stronger, even comming in third, he was an important player that gave people a voice, and let the front runners know they needed to address his supporters. I do hope he waits to offer an endorsment of another candidate.
